Underdogs Rise: Papa SA Stun Netbreakers FC in Thrilling Epe Divisional Final
In a dramatic climax to the Spires 5aside Epe Divisional Qualifiers, Papa SA defied the odds to claim a pulsating 5-4 victory over tournament favourites Netbreakers FC. The underdogs delivered a performance for the ages, booking their place as number 1 Teams within the Epe division.
Papa SA wasted no time stamping their authority on the contest, racing to an early two-goal lead that left the Netbreakers defence reeling. The Netbreakers, known for their resilience, clawed their way back into the game with a spirited response led by their inspirational captain, Elijah. His efforts sparked hopes of yet another famous comeback.

But just as momentum appeared to swing in Netbreakers’ favour, Papa SA delivered a stunning counterpunch—netting three more goals in quick succession to open up a commanding 5-2 lead. In the dying minutes, Netbreakers were awarded a penalty and managed to pull another goal back, but it proved too little, too late. The final whistle confirmed a 5-4 victory for Papa SA in what will go down as one of the most memorable matches in Epe’s 5aside history.
Both finalists—Papa SA and Netbreakers FC—have secured their spots at the Spires 5aside State Championship, where the top three teams from each of Lagos’ five divisions, along with the best overall runner-up, will compete for the ultimate crown: Champions of Lagos.

Earlier in the day, the third-place playoff saw Olaodus FC edge Peckins FC in a tense penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in regulation time. Remarkably, Olaodus FC played the entire 40 minutes without a single substitution, showcasing grit and determination that ultimately earned them a well-deserved ticket to the state finals.

With Papa SA, Netbreakers FC, and Olaodus FC representing Epe Division, all eyes now turn to the Badagry division to decide which 3 teams will stand tall and join the already decided champions from Ikeja, ikorodu and Epe when the Spires state championship begins at the later part of the year.
