Thrilling Conclusion to Ikorodu Division First Round as Orion & Leon FC, Evagrin FC Advance to Spires 5-Aside Semi-Finals
By Victor Ottah
The curtains came down on the first round of the Spires 5-Aside Ikorodu Division with two pulsating encounters that delivered drama, goals, and top-tier grassroots football. The day ended with Orion & Leon FC and Evagrin FC booking their spots in the semi-finals after thrilling victories at the Deeonis Football Court, NITEL, Ota Ona, Ikorodu.
In the first clash of the day, Orion & Leon FC showcased their attacking prowess with a commanding 6–1 victory over Opopo Ona Iwa Mimo FC. The match was a one-sided affair, with Orion & Leon FC dominating from the onset. Goals from Seyi, Emma, Akin, Daniel, Owolabi, and Kenny sealed the emphatic win and confirmed their place in the semi-finals with authority.

The second match of the day proved to be an instant classic—a true battle of titans—as seasoned giant in last season’s Spires 5aside campaign Oladunjoye FC faced off against the newbies Evagrin FC.
Evagrin took an early lead through a calm finish by Joshua, followed closely by a second from Adedotun. But Oladunjoye FC, known for their fighting spirit, responded through quick-fire goals from David and Gabriel to level the score. The intensity only rose from there as both sides threw caution to the wind in pursuit of victory.

Evagrin’s Oluwafemi edged his team back in front with a sharp strike, but Oladunjoye FC’s Michael turned the game on its head with a brilliant brace late in the match, seemingly putting his side on the brink of a famous win. Yet, in the dying moments, Evagrin FC showed remarkable grit, with Michael and Joshua each finding the net to snatch a dramatic 5–4 victory and the final semi-final spot.

The semi-final fixtures are now set and promise more fireworks:
