In a passionate appeal, Mr. Akin Akinyelure, Director of the Spires 5aside Tournament, has emphasized the urgent need for collaboration between government bodies and the private sector in supporting youth-driven initiatives such as the Spires 5aside Tournament.

Speaking at the media parley/Draws kick-starting the divisional mathes, Mr. Akinyelure described the platform as more than just a football competition. “The Spires 5aside is a platform for youths to grow, not just athletically, but socially and personally,” he stated. “He also said that we need more of such initiatives to take the country forward’, as he believes it is an avenue for young people to express their talent, build discipline, and stay engaged in positive activities.

Now in its 2nd season, the Spires 5aside Tournament has become a vibrant community event aimed at empowering young Nigerians through sports, promoting teamwork, and nurturing hidden talent that often goes unnoticed especially at the grassroot level. With limited resources, the organizers have managed to create an inclusive space that continues to attract interest across Lagos and beyond.

Mr. Akinyelure further appealed to stakeholders: “We are calling on both government and private institutions to recognize the impact of initiatives like this. Supporting such programs is not charity, it is an investment in our future. These youths need more opportunities, and we cannot do it alone.”

The Spires 5aside team hopes that increased attention and funding will allow the initiative to expand, reach more communities, and deepen its impact in promoting youth development through sports.
